24 Seater Minibus at a glance

The 24 seater is our largest minibus. It sits right on the line between a minibus and a coach, carrying a group almost the size of a small coach party but in a vehicle that handles narrow roads, village venues and tight hotel entrances more easily.

It is also the size where planning starts to matter more. A vehicle this long needs a little more room to turn and stop than a 16 seater, so we check pickup points and venues in advance, especially rural ones. Most places are fine; a few need a nearby alternative.

That makes it the natural choice for wedding parties heading to a country venue, school classes visiting a museum, clubs on an away day and corporate teams on a site visit. With 24 seater minibus hire, the driver comes with the vehicle, so the whole group can relax.

The main trade-off is luggage. Unlike a coach, a minibus has no underfloor hold, so bags go in the rear space and on spare seats. For day trips and short journeys with light bags, that is no problem; for overnight trips with cases, a midi coach is often the better fit.

How much luggage fits in a 24 seater minibus?

Day bags and kit are easy. Overnight cases for a full group need a coach with a hold.

The 24 seater is fine for day bags and kit. A group of twenty-four with overnight cases will be more comfortable in a midi coach with an underfloor hold. Over twenty people with luggage, it is worth getting a price for a 29 seater coach as well.

Airport runs work well for smaller parties within the 24 seats. Sixteen people with holiday cases, for example, fit comfortably, with the spare seats taking the overflow. It is a popular choice for big family groups and clubs flying to Manchester Airport, Birmingham Airport or Bristol Airport.

Overhead storage takes coats, small bags and packed lunches, which keeps the floor clear for feet and the rear space free for larger items. For a school class, that means lunch bags and coats go up, and the aisle stays clear.

Day trips to the seaside, a theme park or a city attraction are a natural fit. A group of twenty heading to Blackpool, Bournemouth or the museums of London carries little more than day bags and packed lunches, which the overhead storage and rear space handle easily.

Wedding groups travelling between a hotel, a ceremony and a reception usually carry very little, which is why the 24 seater is so popular for guest shuttles. Clubs with kit bags fit too, as long as the kit is not too bulky.

Should we book a 24 seater minibus or a 29 seater coach?

The two sizes overlap on seats but differ in shape, access and luggage.

A 24 seater minibus is narrower and more manoeuvrable. It copes with village lanes, gravel drives, school entrances and hotel car parks that a coach might struggle with. It has no underfloor hold, so luggage goes in the cabin.

Height can matter too. A coach is taller than a minibus, and some older town centres, hotel archways and car parks have height limits that rule a coach out. A 24 seater is far more likely to fit, which is another reason it is popular for city-centre hotels and historic venues.

A 29 seater coach is the first step up to a proper coach. It has a luggage hold underneath, coach seating and, according to our fleet details, an on-board restroom. It is the better choice for overnight trips, longer journeys and groups with lots of luggage.

Some groups book both: a 24 seater for the guests at a wedding and a coach for the evening guests who arrive later, or a coach for a school's main trip and a minibus for the staff and equipment. We can plan combinations like this so every vehicle suits its job.

If your group is twenty to twenty-four people on a day trip with light bags, and the venue has tight access, the 24 seater is usually best. If the group has overnight cases, or the journey is several hours long, the 29 seater is more comfortable.

Comfort is another consideration. Coach seating is higher and often a little more spacious, which suits journeys of several hours. For a two-hour run to a wedding or a day out, the minibus is perfectly comfortable; for a full day on the road, the coach may be the better ride.

Access is often the deciding factor. A country house wedding venue with a narrow drive or a primary school on a residential street can be easier for the minibus. Tell us the venue and we will check.

How does a 24 seater wedding shuttle day usually run?

An example for twenty-two guests staying at one hotel, with the ceremony and reception at different venues. Your times will differ.

Evening timings need thought at weddings. Guests with young children or long journeys home often want to leave earlier than those staying for the last dance, so many couples book two return runs. The driver's working hours are planned around both, so the late run is guaranteed.

Wedding shuttles are one of the most common uses for this size. A 24 seater can carry most of a typical guest list from one hotel in a single run, and it reaches country venues that a full coach might not.

Country venues are where this size shines. Barn venues in the Cotswolds, country houses near York and estates in the Lake District often have long, narrow drives and small parking areas where a full coach would struggle. The 24 seater gets guests to the door.

We plan the day from the ceremony time and work outwards, with a margin at each stage. The aim is guests seated before the couple arrives, a smooth transfer to the reception and a safe journey back to the hotel at the end of the night.

Should we book a 16 seater, a 24 seater or a 29 seater?

The sizes either side of the 24 seater, and when each makes more sense.

Children count as passengers, so a school class of twenty with four staff fills the vehicle exactly. Leave a little room if the numbers might change on the day, and tell us if any pupils need extra support or a particular seat.

The step from 16 to 24 seats is a big one, so think about how many people will actually travel. For seventeen to twenty-four, the 24 seater keeps everyone together; for sixteen or fewer, the smaller minibus is easier to park. Above twenty-four, or with luggage, a coach is the next step. What makes the 24 seater different from a smaller minibus or a coach?

It is the biggest minibus, which gives it a particular set of strengths.

  • Coach-sized groups, minibus access. Carries nearly as many as a small coach, but reaches places coaches cannot.

  • No hold underneath. Luggage goes in the cabin, which suits day trips better than overnight stays.

  • Reading lights and overhead storage. Listed in our fleet details, useful on evening journeys and for keeping the aisle clear.

  • One vehicle for a large party. Keeps a group of twenty or so together without the scale of a coach.

  • Easier to manage at venues. Simpler to park and turn at hotels, schools and village halls.

  • A single point of contact. One driver, one pickup and one meeting point for a group of twenty, which keeps the organiser's job simple.

Who books a 24 seater minibus, and for which trips?

The groups and journeys this size is booked for most often.

Groups that book the 24 seater often have a strong sense of occasion: a wedding, a milestone birthday, a club's big day out or a school's end-of-year trip. Keeping everyone together in one vehicle is part of the experience, and the driver is used to large, cheerful groups.

For school groups, the size suits a class of around twenty with three or four staff, and the vehicle is easier to bring to the school gates than a coach on a busy residential street. For clubs, it carries a squad with substitutes, coaches and a few supporters.

Most bookings are day trips or short journeys with light luggage, where a group of around twenty wants to stay together and the destination has access that suits a minibus better than a coach.

Race days are another regular booking. A syndicate or office party of twenty heading to the Cheltenham Festival or Royal Ascot fits in one vehicle, and the driver drops off and collects at the point the course sets aside for minibuses, which is often closer to the gates than the main coach park.

University and college groups use it too: a society heading to a debate, a choir travelling to a concert or a field course moving between sites. Twenty students and a lecturer, with rucksacks and clipboards, is almost exactly the load this size was built for.

What comes with a 24 seater minibus?

From our fleet details. Features can vary between vehicles, so ask if one matters to your trip.

Reading lights are a small detail that matters on evening journeys, such as the late run back from a wedding or a winter club dinner. Passengers can read or find their belongings without the whole cabin being lit, which keeps the driver's view clear.

As with every vehicle in the fleet, the exact model can vary, so if a particular feature is important, such as charging points for a long journey or air conditioning for a summer wedding, mention it when you book and we will confirm it in writing for your date.

Accessibility is worth raising early. The step into a minibus is lower than the steps into a coach, which helps older passengers, but the aisle is narrower. If anyone uses a wheelchair or a walking frame, tell us when you ask for a quote so we can confirm the right vehicle for your date. Groups travelling to a hospital appointment, a care-home outing or a day centre trip often find the minibus easier for exactly this reason.

For trips that run late into the evening, such as a party night out or a winter dinner, the cabin lighting and the climate control make the return journey far more comfortable than a draughty hired van.

Every booking includes a professional licensed driver. For longer journeys, the driver's hours are planned with breaks at sensible points, and very long days may need a second driver or an overnight stop.
