Minibus hire London: hotels, stations, stadiums and every airport
Minibus hire London with a driver who plans around the capital's coach bays, bus lanes and charging zones, so your group is collected where a vehicle can actually stop, and arrives together.

What should a group plan for first in London?
Red routes, bus lanes and loading rules mean a vehicle often stops round the corner from the door. We name the spot in advance. London City can be half an hour from the City; Stansted or Gatwick can take well over an hour. Central London has a congestion charge and the wider city has emission rules. Check the latest before you travel; we confirm how they apply when we quote.
Wembley, the O2, Twickenham and the West End all empty at once. A meeting point a few minutes' walk away saves time. A 16 seater gets into far more hotel forecourts than a full-size coach.
The capital
What is it like moving a group around London by minibus?
London is a city of short distances and slow roads. Westminster to the Tower is only a few miles, but at the wrong time of day it can take most of an hour by road. Groups who travel well here plan by the clock rather than the map: early starts, journeys between the rush hours, and drop-offs timed for when venues open their doors.
The other London habit is walking the last stretch. Many hotel streets in Bloomsbury, Covent Garden and Mayfair are too narrow, too busy or too restricted for a vehicle to wait outside. With minibus hire London drivers use the closest legal place to stop, which might be a side street, a hotel's rear entrance or a coach bay, and the group walks a minute or two to the door.
Outside the centre, the picture is easier. Docklands hotels near Canary Wharf and the Royal Docks have wide roads and forecourts, the stadiums in north and west London have organised drop-off areas, and suburban pickups in places like Richmond, Greenwich or Harrow are usually straightforward.
London has its own charging zones for vehicles, including the Congestion Charge in the centre and the Ultra Low Emission Zone across the whole of Greater London, and the rules and charges change from time to time. Check the latest before you travel; we plan routes and quotes with them in mind and tell you how they affect your trip.
Which places around London do we also cover?
Many London trips start or end just outside the city. Each of these has its own page with local pickup detail.
Many London trips start outside the capital. A group from Essex, Kent or Surrey heading into the West End for a show, or a family from the Home Counties going to Heathrow, is a typical booking, and one vehicle can do a loop of pickups before joining the motorway.
Out east along the A12, handy for Stansted and the Essex coast.
Quick answer
Which London airport is quickest from the centre by minibus?
For most of central and east London it is London City Airport, often 30 to 45 minutes from the West End and less from Canary Wharf. Heathrow is usually 45 to 75 minutes along the M4. Gatwick, Stansted and Luton each tend to take an hour to an hour and a half, and Southend a little longer from the west.
The real answer depends on the time. A Friday afternoon run to Gatwick through south London can take far longer than the same trip at 5am, so we plan each airport run around the flight and the day of the week, not an average.
How do groups get to Wembley, the O2 and Twickenham by minibus?
London's big venues all handle crowds differently. These are the ones we drive to most.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London and the Emirates in Islington both host football and big concerts, on residential streets with heavy match-day restrictions. For any of London's big venues, we check the event-day traffic plan in advance, drop a short walk away and agree a pickup point for the end of the night.
Wembley Stadium
Cup finals, internationals and stadium concerts bring huge crowds to north-west London. Private vehicles use the drop-off arrangements set for each event, and the walk up Olympic Way is part of the day. See our FA Cup final and Summertime Ball pages.
The O2 at North Greenwich
The arena sits on the Greenwich peninsula, reached through the Blackwall Tunnel or from the A102. After a show, traffic leaving the peninsula is slow, so we agree a pickup a short walk from the doors.
Twickenham Stadium
Rugby internationals turn the streets of Twickenham into a sea of people. Road closures around the ground are common, and a drop-off on a main road nearby, followed by a walk, is usually quickest.
Lord's, the Oval and the football grounds
Cricket at St John's Wood and Kennington, and football at Tottenham, the Emirates, Stamford Bridge and the London Stadium, all follow the same rule: get close, then walk.
Which London events do groups book a minibus for?
The calendar is full all year. These are the dates that fill our London diary first; always check the official dates before you book.
Summer concerts in Hyde Park bring tens of thousands of people to the park on the same evenings, and the roads around Park Lane and Knightsbridge are busy before and after. We drop a short walk from the gates and agree a meeting point away from the busiest exits, so the group is not searching for the vehicle in the crowd.
London Marathon in April
Runners' families and charity teams need to be near the start in Greenwich and the finish on The Mall on the same day, with roads closed in between.
How do you plan a London sightseeing day by minibus?
A private vehicle lets a group see a lot in one day, as long as the plan works with the traffic, not against it.
A river cruise is one of the easiest ways to see the sights without fighting traffic. A group can be dropped at Westminster Pier, sail down the Thames to Tower Bridge or Greenwich, and be collected at the far end. We plan the pickup around the boat's arrival time.
Start early
Leave the hotel before 9am to cross the centre while roads are still moving.
Group the sights
Do Westminster, the river and Buckingham Palace together, then the City and the Tower, rather than criss-crossing.
Use drop and collect
The driver drops you, moves to a legal waiting place and comes back at an agreed time.
Book timed entries
Fix entry times for places like the Tower of London first, then plan the driving around them.
Finish west or east
End the day near your hotel so the last journey is short.
How long are the common group journeys from central London?
Approximate road times from the West End in normal traffic. Peak hours and Fridays are slower.
Cruise passengers often travel from London to Southampton or Dover on embarkation day. Both runs take around two hours in normal traffic, and ships sail at fixed times, so we plan with a generous margin and collect from the hotel early.
Down the M3, a common run for cruise groups with luggage.
DoverAbout 2 hours
Down the M20 for ferries and cruises from the Kent coast.
Can a minibus or coach stop outside a London hotel or station?
Sometimes yes, often no. These are the London rules of thumb we plan with.
Many main roads in London are red routes, where stopping is banned or limited to marked bays at certain times. Bus lanes have their own hours. That means a vehicle cannot simply wait on the street outside a hotel, so we agree a pickup point that works: a hotel forecourt, a side street, or a nearby bay.
The big stations each have their own arrangements. King's Cross and St Pancras have busy pick-up areas, Paddington has a taxi rank and limited stopping, and Victoria, Waterloo and Liverpool Street are surrounded by bus routes. For station pickups we usually meet the group at a named spot a short walk away, and send a description with the booking.
Coaches face tighter rules than minibuses. A full-size coach can only use designated coach bays in much of central London, many of which have time limits. If your hotel is on a narrow street, two minibuses may be easier than one coach.
Central London also has a congestion charge, and the whole city has emission rules for some vehicles. Both change from time to time, so check the latest rules before you travel. We confirm how they affect your trip when we quote.
Where can a London group go for a day out by minibus?
Some of England's best-known day trips are within two hours of the capital. Times are approximate from central London.
The Warner Bros. Studio Tour, where the Harry Potter films were made, is at Leavesden near Watford, about an hour from central London. Entry is by timed ticket, so we plan the drop-off around your slot and collect at an agreed time at the end of the tour.
The Roman Baths and Georgian crescents. A long day, but a classic tour.

Minibus hire in London: common questions
Where can a minibus pick up at King's Cross or St Pancras?
Both stations have busy pick-up areas with limited waiting. We usually meet groups at a named point a short walk away and send directions with the booking.
Does a minibus have to pay the congestion charge in London?
Vehicles driving in the central zone at charging times may have to pay, and London also has emission rules. The rules change, so check the latest before you travel. We explain how they apply to your trip when we quote.
How long does a minibus take from central London to Gatwick?
Usually around an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the time of day. Friday afternoons and the morning peak are the slowest.
Can you take a group to the O2 and wait for us?
Yes. The driver drops you near the arena and meets you at an agreed point after the show, away from the busiest roads on the peninsula.
What is the best vehicle for a London sightseeing tour?
For up to 16 people, a 16 seater minibus gets closest to most sights. Larger groups use a coach and walk a little further from the coach bays.
Can you collect a school group for a museum trip in South Kensington?
Yes. The museums are busy with school coaches, so we agree the drop-off and collection times in advance. See school trip minibus hire.
Do you run London minibuses late at night?
Yes. Theatre trips, concerts and parties often finish late, and we plan the pickup for whenever the night ends. See party transport.
How early should we book for New Year's Eve in London?
As early as you can. Central roads close for the celebrations, demand is very high, and the pickup point has to be planned around the closures.
Which vehicle suits a London group?
London streets favour smaller vehicles, so size up only as far as the group needs.
For theatre trips to the West End, a smaller vehicle is a real advantage. Drop-off points near Shaftesbury Avenue and the Strand are limited and busy at curtain-down, and a minibus can usually get closer and away sooner than a full coach.
